This internship was focused on a research project inside the I3S laboratory (directly affiliated to CNRS and Inria institutes) focused on problems related to 360 degrees videos streaming through network. Indeed, such an operation requires a much bigger network speed than with a standard video (360 videos being much larger) and could cause problems for the user during viewing.
The project aimed to study different dynamic editing techniques so that the network load can be reduced while preserving user comfort. My work focused on the modification of an existing (previously created by the research team) 360 video player on Android, targeting Samsung Gear VR devices, to implement the “slow down” technique allowing to slow down the video playback speed temporarily during relevant periods. I've also been able to create a user testing protocol so that testing sessions could be later organized during experimentation phase.
The work done during this internship has lead to a peer-reviewed scientific article published in Computers & Graphics for which I am a co-author.
