This project consisted of a realistic virtual reality targeted driving simulation which I was able to work on during my end-of-studies internship in AUSY Nice. The main goal was to provide the company an application efficiently showing the different possibilities and potentials of virtual reality, particularly in terms of presence and immersion.
The simulation was made with the Unity engine. My job was to put together a 3D city environment as well as the virtual car controls for the user, based on existing driving devices like a USB driving wheel or pedals. From here, I got the opportunity to work on problems related to virtual reality technologies usage, graphics optimization for performance purposes as well as the implementation of autonomous agents inside the simulation such as pedestrians or cars.
I've also been able to work on a user testing protocol for the application, using the knowledge that I acquired on the topic during my studies as well as evaluation methods coming from state-of-the-art research works on the evaluation of immersive virtual environments. I later participated in their execution and on the results' analysis.
